Life
is full of challenges. Whether it is a job that is toxic, or a
heartbreak, or a challenging financial situation (to name only three!!),
there are significant challenges in life. So what do you do when
you are there and life has been launched into chaos? Your own
exposure to stress can have a significant impact on your relationships
and your abilities temporarily so how do you cope so that your home is
once again peaceful and your cortisol doesn't spike every time the phone
rings or your email dings?
I have been given some advice recently that resonates:
First
of all: Breathe. That is all you really have to do to stay
alive in the moment is breathe. Ground yourself, look around and
realize where you are and that the monsters in your head and life are
not there at that moment and try to live there (in the breath) for as
long as you can and as often as you can.
Secondly:
go outside. I know it's hard. It's so much better to fight
monsters from your bed and when you are curled up in a chair in your
safe house. But go outside and ground yourself in nature.
I
know that monsters and chaos can arise in life and this can affect
everything; your own peace, the connection you have with your
children, your home education program, the household chores being
done, and then there is the crippling guilt because your lack of
ability is making it hard for your children! I promise it will get
better. Just breathe. And go outside.
